Chapter Eight
Ellie ran through the darkness and didn’t bother to knock before she barged through Ian’s door and into the empty room.
Her body sank into the softness of his bed. Her body shook uncontrollably as tears sprang to her eyes. The emotions were unwelcome and Ellie tried to push them down. She couldn’t allow herself to dissolve. She had no one to blame but herself; she had been warned.
There was so much Ellie didn’t know about this place. There were so many questions that ran through her mind. She wanted to know more about the den. It was clear that she didn’t know exactly how soulless and evil the vampires who lived here were. She had been entirely too comfortable and naïve in simply accepting what had happened to her as Fate.
Whether she was vampire or human, Ellie had the right to make her own choices about right and wrong. She would not allow anyone to tell her how to live her life. She had gone through too much to allow others to dictate her actions. She needed to get out of this hell hole.
Time flew by. The more she thought about the den, the more she wondered about ‘the mission’ that Master Liam had talked about. Hopefully, Ian would have the answers.
The sun was going to rise in the next hour. She needed to go back to her room. Slowly, she stood up and felt her soul click back into the body she inhabited. She was no longer their pawn. For the sake of her life, she would play along, but she wanted to get out of this place.
The door flew open. Ian stepped through.
“Oh my God, Ian. What happened to you?” she cried. There was blood splattered across his clothes and the buttery skin of his chiseled face.
“Don’t worry. I’m fine. You should see the other guy,” he snickered. “You’re welcome by the way. I’m glad I made it to you in time.”
“That was you?” She was relieved. “But wait—how did you know it was me in the corridor?”
“Yes, it was me,” he laughed. “When I was coming out of my room I heard you struggling and then whisper the ‘fire’ thing. There was no way it could have been anyone else. You are the strongest willed vamp I know.”
“Thanks, Ian, but if I’m the strongest, you must not know many vampires. Every one of them I have met is as hard and cold as steel—not that there is anything wrong with that.” She tried to quell the desire for his touch that had welled inside of her.
Ian walked over to her and put his hands on her shoulders. The simple action made her knees weaken. He was so warm.
“There isn’t anything wrong with hiding who you are in front of these demons. But you don’t need to hide who you are with me. I want to know you,” he said with a smile.
He reached up to her face and wiped the blood splatters from her skin. “Master Liam let it slip about your condition.
